  • Monday, October 11, 2021: SNAP CHALLENGE

    FSI SNAP CHALLENGE

    • Virtual Event
    • Take the SNAP Challenge living on $4/day (Florida) or $2/day (global) to raise awareness about the difficulty of eating on a tight budget. SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and aims to help low-income people buy nutritious food. You can share your experience on Thursday! #SNAPChallenge

  • Tuesday, October 12, 2021: POVERTY SIMULATION

    FSI Poverty Simulation

    • Virtual Event
    • Unfortunately, poverty is a real issue faced by many, locally and globally. It is difficult to understand the issues associated with poverty if you have never experienced it. We encourage all participants to use the SPENT poverty simulator at http://playspent.org to gain a better understanding of the harsh realities of poverty. You can share your experiences via social media on Thursday! #PlaySpent


  • Wednesday, October 13, 2021: HIDDEN HUNGER

    FSI Hidden Hunger Event

    •  In-person event 9:00-10:30am- Reitz Union Room G-310/ Pre-recordings available
    • Today the focus will be on local to global hunger, obvious and hidden, along with the Food System Institute's efforts to address and reduce these problems. The event will take place 9-10:30am in Room G-310 at the Reitz Union. Speakers: Karla Shelnutt, Dina Liebowitz, Juan Andrade, Sarah McKune.

  • Thursday, October 14, 2021: SHARE EXPERIENCES

    FSI Share SNAP Challenge and Poverty Simulation Experiences

    • Virtual Activity
    • Today is the day to share experiences taking the SNAP Challenge and the Poverty Simulator. These experiences can be shared on TikTok and social media via video, images and text using hashtag #GatorsGiveandServe2021

    FSI Table at CALS Kick-Off

    • Grand Ballroom, Reitz Union 5:30=7:30pm
    • Vote for your favorite student organization table by bringing non-perishable food items for the Alan and Cathy Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry. The student organization that collects the most non-perishable food items at CALS Kickoff will win a free pizza or sub party for its next meeting!

  • Friday, October 15, 2021: GIVE AND SERVE DAY

    FSI Gators Give and Serve - Day of Action

    • Today is the day to volunteer with or give to local charities such as food banks and pantries.  We would also greatly appreciate donations to the Food Systems Institute in support of research, education and extension initiatives aiming to reduce  hunger locally to globally.

  • Saturday, October 16, 2021: WORLD FOOD DAY

    World Food Day

    • October 16 2021 is WORLD FOOD DAY!
    • World Food Day is held annually on October 16 to raise awareness of the issues surrounding hunger and poverty. Although more than enough food is produced each year to feed the global population, as many as 811 million people go hungry. An additional 70-161 million people are likely to experience hunger as a result of the pandemic. (https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal2)

What is a Dietitian Nutritionist?  Join the panel discussion to learn how these health professionals provide specialized dietary guidance and what services are provided on campus. Topics will include: nutrition services offered on campus, pathways into dietetics, body image, popular/fad diets, social media (influencers/health coaches vs dietitians), healthful eating on campus, nutrition and preventative health. Questions will be strongly encouraged!

    Chili Cook Off and Lunch (FSHN Club Fundraiser)

      • Come show off your best chili recipe or come ready for lunch. This FSHN Student Organization Fundraiser will be showcasing chili recipes. Feel free to participate as a contestant or purchase a bowl of delicious chili for $5, or chili dog for $2, once the judging is completed. 25% of all proceeds will be donated to The Children's Table in Bronson, FL. The Children's Table is a not for profit organization serving North Central Florida with free emergency food as well as sharing the cost of food for low-income families..
