Corwin Nelson
Associate Professor, Animal Sciences
Dr. Nelson is an Associate Professor of Physiology in the department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida. His research focuses on the interface of nutrition and immunity in animals with the goal of preventing diseases that impact production and well-being of livestock. His teaching interests include vitamin nutrition and physiology and providing experiential learning experiences for undergraduates to learn about sustainable agricultural systems. A biochemist by training, his research interests include elucidating the molecular and genetic basis for nutritional influences on immune and endocrine systems of livestock species. Much of his research has focused on vitamin D nutrition and physiology with a special emphasis on immunity of cattle. As a farm boy from rural Minnesota, he has a sincere interest in developing sustainable solutions for agriculture that benefit livelihoods of consumers and farmers and conservation of environmental resources.
