Research summary
To harness the maximum benefits of smart farming technology in the urban and peri-urban dairy farming systems of Sub-Saharan Africa, this project aims to implement advanced smart devices (smaXtec bolus) and evaluate their efficacy in supporting these farms.
The goal is to determine the potential of the smaXtec endo-reticular bolus sensor system to improve feed utilization, reproductive management, and animal health across genetic influences in urban and peri-urban dairy farms in Tanzania.
Collaborators include smallholder dairy farmers in Kilimanjaro, Nronga Women Dairy Cooperative Society, members of Kilimanjaro Fresh, National Ranching Company Ltd (NARCO), and pastoralists from Simanjaro and Handeni district.
