UF/IFAS Global Food Systems Institute
Building on UF’s land-grant mission to generate and share knowledge for the public good, the Global Food Systems Institute (GFSI) aims to lead the discovery and dissemination of evidence-based solutions that deliver safe and nutritious food for a growing world population—while improving livelihoods, strengthening societies, and safeguarding our environment through integrated research, teaching, and Extension.
What We Do
We convene faculty, students, staff, and Extension professionals across biophysical, economic, and social sciences to form transdisciplinary teams tackling complex food-system challenges. Through our four thematic areas, we serve as a hub for collaborative research, education, and outreach—connecting partners, securing funding, and supporting projects that advance global food and nutrition security, economic opportunity, and environmental resilience.
What We Aim For
Our Vision: To develop transformative and sustainable, participatory research-based solutions that enhance nutrition, health, livelihoods, and the environment globally through improved food systems.
Our mission: To engage in participatory research-based solutions that enhance the nutritional, health, and livelihoods of global citizens and the environment through scientifically improved food systems.
