    Research summary 

    The SmaXtec bolus technology can be used to estimate methane output and thus emissions intensity of milk production. However, no actual confirmation of methane output has been completed to verify the underlying algorithms. 

     The University of Florida UF/IFAS Department of Animal Sciences will collaborate with smaXtec to directly measure cows' methane output using various dietary components and across production levels. This information will then be used to tune algorithms to predict methane output more accurately from individual cows at the farm level.
