Dr. Adesogan is a Professor of Ruminant Nutrition and the Director of the Food Systems Institute. His research has focused on improving forage production, quality and preservation and using feed additives, forages and byproducts to improve animal production and health.

Bruce Welt

Dr. Bruce Welt completed his education at the University of Florida with prominent food-process engineer, Dr. Art Teixeira. He then spent a few years in industry before returning to UF to help start the packaging science program. Welt's background gives him a broad view of his field, with the practicality of a working engineer and the insight of a researcher. He applies this balanced view in his research and in his teaching.

Taryn Garlock is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Food Systems Institute. She conducts interdisciplinary research that explores interconnections between marine resources and social systems at local and international scales. Recent work has focused on the use of new performance indicators to analyze fishery systems and the communities that depend on them, and how growth in aquaculture is changing the global seafood sector. She received her Ph.D. in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida.

Dr. Dubeux is an Associate Professor of Forages and Grazing Management and the Associate Chair of the Agronomy Department. His research has focused on nutrient cycling of livestock and forage systems, with emphasis on integrating forage legumes. Dr. Dubeux also has an extensive international work on silvopasture systems and use of cactus as fodder in drylands.

Dr. Mulvaney runs an applied agronomic research and extension program with a focus on fertility management and plant nutrition. He has experience in over 55 countries on six continents, served as Assistant Program Director for the USAID SANREM CRSP, and Cropping Systems Agronomist at CIMMYT in Mexico.

Dr. Lee is a Professor of precision agriculture. His research has focused on developing sensing systems for specialty crops in Florida, such as crop yield mapping, disease detection, and farm automation.

               

Yu Wang

Associate Professor Food Science and Human Nutrition Department, University of Florida

BIO

Dr. Yu Wang’s research focuses on Flavor Chemistry, identification of aroma and taste compounds, instrumental analysis, flavor stability, molecular sensory and flavor modulation and Natural Product Chemistry –discovery of novel bioactive compounds, usage of citrus by-products for flavor modulation and health benefits. 

               

Yvette Goodiel 

Sustainability & Commercial Horticulture Agent III, UF/IFAS Extension Martin County, University of Florida

BIO

Yvette Goodiel has been an Extension Agent in Martin County since 2011. She earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Miami in 1993 and M.A. in Ecology from University of Kansas in 1996. She helps farmers, nursery growers, landscapers, and other agribusinesses connect with resources they need to keep their businesses thriving, keep workers safe, and protect natural resources.

             

Ziynet Boz

Assistant Professor of Sustainable Food Systems Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, University of Florida

BIO

Dr. Ziynet Boz’s research focus and background include food engineering synergies in packaging & processing, food waste, and cyber-food systems. She teaches Food and Bioprocess Engineering Unit Operations (Fall), Applications of Life Cycle Assessment in Biological Engineering, and Biological Engineering Design 2 (Spring).

Carolyn Howard

Carolyn Howard is the Assistant to the Director of Food Systems Institute and Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems.  In addition to administrative duties, she coordinates travel for the Director and other travel-related logistics. She also assists the Communications Manager with editing and design of outreach products and communications materials.  Carolyn brings three decades experience helping busy executives and organizations across five states streamline processes and operate more efficiently.

Cathy Bester

Project Coordinator

BIO

Cathy Bester is the coordinator for the Food Systems Institute and is responsible for organizational and management tasks supporting faculty, projects, and events. Prior to joining the FSI, Cathy was employed with the Florida Museum of Natural History, during her earlier years working in science education and communication, and later as the project assistant for the NSF-funded iDigBio project. She has undergraduate and graduate degrees in the Biological Sciences.

Maddie Dvorak

Maddie Dvorak is the Student Assistant of the Food Systems Institute and works closely with the Coordinator on organizational and management tasks as needed. She is currently working on her undergraduate degrees in Food and Resource Economics and Family, Youth, and Community Sciences.
